♻️ How to Care for Your Polyester Jerseys (and Beat the Funk)

Ride more, waste less.

Polyester jerseys are built for performance — quick-drying, breathable, and tough enough for full send days.
But let’s be real: after a few rides, they can sometimes hold onto odours.
Good news? It’s not the end.
With the right care, your jersey can stay fresh ride after ride — and you’ll keep it out of the landfill a whole lot longer.

💡 Why Does Polyester Hold Smells?

Polyester doesn’t absorb water like natural fibres (like Merino), so bacteria and oils from your skin can stick to the fibres instead. Over time, even after a regular wash, that “funk” can build up.

It’s not ruined. It just needs a little deep clean love.

🧼 Quick Care Tips to Stay Fresh

  • Wash after every ride (even if you don’t sweat buckets)

  • Turn it inside out before washing

  • Use cold water — hot water can set smells

  • Pick the right detergent — choose one made for activewear or synthetics (no fabric softener!)

✨ How to Deep Clean a Smelly Jersey

If regular washes aren’t cutting it, here’s your rescue plan:

1. Pre-Soak:
Mix a sink or bucket with cold water and add:

  • A cup of white vinegar or

  • A few tablespoons of baking soda
Let your jersey soak for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

2. Wash as Normal:
After soaking, machine wash on a cold, gentle cycle with a technical detergent.

3. Dry Naturally:
Air dry completely — don’t leave it damp in a heap.

❌ What to Avoid

  • No fabric softeners (they coat fibres and trap smells)

  • No dryer sheets (same reason)

  • No high-heat drying (can bake smells in permanently)

♻️ Wear, Repair, Repeat.
